Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. — Luke 12:6–7
A few days ago when I attempted to merge onto the freeway, an eighteen-wheeler appeared to my left. Unable to pick up enough speed to get ahead of it, I slowed. However, the entrance ramp narrowed quickly, and with a concrete barrier on the right, I had no place to go. I braked as the truck whizzed past, mere inches away. “Oh, Lord. Help!” Had I been merging faster, I would have either been hit or pinned between the truck and the concrete barrier.
Thank You, Jesus, for protecting me.

Was it coincidence I wasn’t going faster and was able to slow down to avoid an accident?
No. As the hymnist penned, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”
Do you question God’s care for you?
Not one sparrow is forgotten by Him. Do not fear, for you are of more value than many sparrows.
Father, I praise You for the love and care You give Your creation. Your eye is on the sparrow, and You watch over me. Thank You.
If this reader is questioning Your care for her, I ask You to help her grasp Your love and compassion. You are a good Father, worthy of our trust and praise. In Jesus’ name, amen.
About Hope for the Valley
Hope for the Valley is the ministry God has entrusted to J.K. Stewart—wife, breast cancer survivor, and follower of Jesus Christ. Soon after her diagnosis, she started a women’s cancer support group. Two years later, she launched Hope for the Valley, a website of devotions and prayers for women with cancer. J.K. lives in Texas with her husband, dog, and four cats. When she’s not writing, she’s either studying her Bible, walking her dog, or vacuuming pet hair. Connect with her and the ministry of Hope for the Valley on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+.
